Whisky #24: Glengoyne 10yo

Unusual one, this.

Half expecting it to be a little different due to its declared lack of peat, the first thing that hits is an aroma that is at best buttery, at worse slightly rancid. But something else keeps the edge of any unpleasentness - apples?

There's a real barleyness to this, perhaps because there's no hint of peat to keep it in check. But it makes for a fresh tasting and balanced whisky, a real sucker of green apples in there with plenty of sweet 'n sour to conjure with.

If it wasn't for that strange aroma I'd contemplate keeping a bottle of this on standby.
