Whisky #7: Benromach 18yo
What England expects; solid straight batting in the top order.
Love trying a malt with absolutly no idea of what to expect.
And it's a malt of two halves; blunted fruit aroma, just a hint of smoke (anyone ever set fire to Airfix glue? Come back into the room half an hour later and an astringent whiff lingers? That's the hint here).
The palate and finish is another one of those breath-taking gasps; dessicates on the tounge, rips across the lips; the Verbal Kint of malts - and like that, it's gone.
Possibly the best featherweight since Naseem Hamed?
